I'm lost on what weight of trans oil to use. if I use lighter oil I have leaks around the PTO shaft, and under the tans plate. not sure what the plate is. I live in Mich. if I use HYTrans I'm afraid of leaks, can I use any type of seal leak. It does have T/A. I just got the tractor, and I'm just not familiar with it. It's a 300 utility 1956. Hope someone can help me.

Leaks need to be repaired. Hytran or Hyguard (JD equal) is the answer because of the TA one way clutch. It will be failure prone if thicker oil is
substituted. Leaks are not repaired with thicker oil, they just leave smaller puddles. Jim

hank you Jim I have been racking my brain I had one person saying to use 90 weight but you convinced me to use Hytran or Hyguard. I have hydraulic fluid I use for my Bobcat do you think that would be okay to use. One more thing , do you know if there is a seal right where the comes PTO shaft comes out. Again Thank you

There is a seal there. If the info on the can, or published data indicate that it meets the Hy-tran or Hy-guard spec, no problem.

For farm use there are two types hydraulic oil, one for only hydraulic sytems, the second for hydraulic and transmissions. You need to check to get the second, ie for hydraulic and transmissions.
