Anybody got any combination of the three? How do they compare?Just curious.Just bought a 1456,wonder how it 'stack up' against my 1256. Thanks, steve

Axles are bigger brakes bigger engine piston Pin are bigger and rods are heavier injection pump is 4roller, Injectors are bigger and they are a dam good tractor

What work output,torque/lugging,fuel use? just curious. How high can you 'safely' crank em up to?

steve, generaly you can crank em up just to the point where the motor scatters, then back em off about 10%. sorry, couldnt resist. only had my 2 nd cup o coffee and dint take my meds yet!!!

I have had all three and the 56 shifted much better.I had a new 1206 in 65 and there was a problem before they switched to wedge style wheels. The 361 being a dry sleeve motor takes an experienced mechanic to overhaul it correctly which they are an excellent motor. The 1206s generally are cold blooded.Anything over 250H.P. can cause head gasket to leak in back corner.Mine were all nice and I really enjoyed them. The 1206 if tractors are pretty was my favorite. The PTO being external is a big plus if used on PTO a lot and T/A if used correctly will last a long time.I will see if my daughter can post a picture of the 3 together.

I have a 1456 and still have one of my two 1206's....140-150 horsepower is a nice setting for field use..
I pulled a 21 ft disk,24 ft field cultivator, and a 14 ft chisel in the same gear with both the 1456 and
the 1206's...Those 361's are strong engines..

My 856 in the top picture with duals (1974) had lots of pulling mods and could turn 200 HP in the
field but in hot weather it wanted to run warm and puke water so was run at around 160 HP..On the
pulling track it ran a bigger pump, lines, and tips so was around 300-350 HP......The bottom picture is
the man that bought the 856 new...This is from 1969 when he won both the 12000 and 15000 classes
at Rich Hill,MO...

Some pulling friends in Kansas ran a 1456 IH at over 200-225 horses in the field but had an intercooler
on it..They pulled a 27 ft Krause disk..

I have spent many hours on all three.
The 1456 is bigger and heavier all the way around. One of the best, if not the best tractor, IH ever built. The 1466 used everything in the 1456 from the flywheel back. The only real difference between the 1456 and 1466 was engine and styling.

The 1206 / 1256 are closer relatives. They were all darn good brutes and still are.

Ideally, 150 - 160 is a safe range, but we ran them all with more horses, of course we snapped axles, but we had fun running them.
