IH W-30 Engine belt install......

Set my engine back in the tractor yesterday - starting to assemble - has anyone put on a new belt on this motor? Maybe same as F-30 and others- but Im sure it is the right one - matches the old one- do you have to take off the front half of the water pump pulley? Darn thing wont stretch over the top of the pulley.......thanks.

you need to loosen the set screw or even remove it on outer half of pulley. i remove them that way i can spray penetrant in the threads to help turn the outer half of pulley. you need to open the pulley up by turning it. use a big punch and hammer and tap on the appropriate spots there.then put the belt on water pump then install on crank pulley.loosening is all that is required. then tighten the pully till you have correct tension on it. about 3/4 " deflection in the middle of belt. need to turn engine over also to get belt to climb up pulley.

hey thanks...I did loosen outer half and turn it out.....then installed belt on top pulley first.....then the bottom....thanks .
