I am currently refurbishing and an IH 424 Tractor. The air cleaner assembly was totally missing when I got the tractor and I need to find one for it. Can any of you help me with pictures and location of what the assembly Looks like and where it's located ? Also, if the assembly is the Siam as other model tractors please let me know. I have parts tractors such as a 140, H, M, and C Tractor's. If the assembly on one of those he is the same that would help out a lot.

I would like to reiterate that this is a gas powered tractor with A C-146 engine. I have a 424 with the diesel engine and that is totally different

I just looked there and it looks as if the 424 gas tractor has a horizontal dry type element filter assembly. I will pretty much need every part associated with that unit as shown in the parts diagram. I'm gonna need to find a parts tractor it looks like.

Let me know if any of you have one or know of a parts tractor it can be removed from. I've called salvage yards here in Alabama and haven't found one yet.

THANKS!

A NAPA or other auto parts store should be able to fix you up with a dry type filter that installs directly in the carburetor. No way I would even consider that as a replacement for the original, but it would allow you to use the tractor.

Yeah I've thought of that but when bush hogging it wouldn't be the best thing to have. I'm trying to get the original. Just have to find a parts tractor.

Personally I think an airbox/paper element air cleaner off anything with equivalent HP is going to be fine, in order to use the tractor. Obviously not show quality without the original setup, but there's a reason oil bath air cleaners aren't used any more.

My opinion as to why...2 reasons...the oil which is pulled over, even in incrementally small amounts, destroys octane & fuel quality...I also believe the paper element filter can take out finer particles.

I converted my Super A over to a Donaldson paper element filter some years back and it is running just fine.
