Using original wiring harness on 300 for 12V conversion

Using the original wires on the conversion to 12V for the 300.
The two wire that were attached to the generator were Green and yellow, the Green is the heavier wire. I attached this to the alternator and then back at the regulator (Unhooked all the wires) I attached it to the gray wire as it should be going back to the Ammeter correct? The yellow wire isn't attached to anything at either end.

The black wire (orange on a Cub diagram) is reattached to the coil and should be going back to the ignition switch. It is attached to the coil as originally just on opposite poles.

The question is where should the light green wire that was attached to the voltage regulator that goes back to the ignition switch be attached?

The starter has a selenoid on it as it is key ignition.

Thanks,
Shawn

I would not use the "original" harness. I would rip it out and rewire. The old is probably cracked and corroded anyway. using a one wire, run one wire from alt to amp gauge, then back to battery at starter. Then draw power from gauge to ignition switch to coil. That's it. Done. Draw other accys. from same lug as ig switch. then tape all together in a neat clean harness.Have several tractors like this with no problems whatsoever.

Remove the dash by taking out the screws and pulling it out. (disconnect the battery first as things can short out). I like the
three wire system using a 14231 Hitachi Alternator. Jim

I just put an alternator on a 300. I used the original wiring. I
didn't have to change the amp meter wires. They were already
hooked up backwards from the last person that worked on it.

Just had to remove the regulator and splice the wires together.
The extra wire on the regulator is for the headlights.

On Generator end fold back Field wire You do not need it, go back to the regulator, fold back field wire do not need it, connect other three wires together. Then switch ampmeter wires side to side DONE. Change light
bulbs to 12 volt and switch wires on coil

Thanks, got the wiring job done started right up and then put the petronix kit in it. Also put new plugs in it. Not sure how old they were but had Autolite 386's in it. Replaced with the 3116s.
