..Replacing charging system wiring on my IH 884 and have a couple of questions. In the photo of the alternator, what should each of the numbered 1-2-3 alternator posts be connected to? In which line does the diode go? To which line should the indicator light be connected? Thanks in advance!!

It is not a Delco DN series , nor an SI series, If it came out of the tractor from the factory, you need the factory diagram. If you (or someone in here) can tell us what it is we can help. Jim

Thanks Jim, I believe that these came out of the factory with a Lucas alternator, however I suspect that this is an aftermarket replacement. I bought the tractor used about 12 years ago.

Wires 1 and 2 are positive battery . should be hot all the time. Wire #3 is the exciter wire if tractor has a charge light it would be hooked to that. I think you should also clean those terminals the best you can, They look rusty in the picture and that will cause you a lot of problems if there not cleaned up. hth jstpa

Thanks! Do I deduce correctly from your post that both terminals 1 and 2 are connected to a full battery power source and that 3 is wired to the key switch with the diode in that line and the indicator light connected to that wire?

Thanks,Jimb, I have that diagram, however it is confusing to me because it shows only two wires connected to the alternator when there are three involved in the 3-in-one plug-in connector. I need to know where each wire is ultimately connected on the other end.

Yes cool hand that would be how to wire it. Although I don't think you need a diode , but look at the diagram and see if it shows one there. hth, jstpa
