Farmall H generator

I am slowly in the process of rewiring an H, I am putting it back to 6 volt with a mag., battery, and regulator. I recently got a couple generators, they have two different size pulleys, one a non-adjustable, 3" dia., the other an adjustable 4 1/8" dia., according to my parts book, it looks like the small one was on a Bosch gen. with lights but no battery, and the bigger one was on a Delco, with lights and a battery, now it looks like I have two Delcos.
Does it matter which one I use? And I know, I would need an adjustable upper bracket for the non-adjustable pulley.

On that series of tractors and engines they went to the small pulley during F-300 production with adjustable mounting brackets.

What is the Delco # so you can have the correct regulator and do they both have the third adjustable brush. I would have both checked so you know they work then go with adjustable pulley on the one you decide to use and make shure the reg is for the one you use. Is your lite sw the four position one that also can determine the regulator. The tag ending in 501 would be a different reg. Either one looks like they are neither a 355 or 423 as they had the reg or cutout mounted on top

What is the purpose of the 3 pos switch? If you use a cutout, you would need a 4 pos switch with L, H, B, D, positions. If you use a true voltage regulator, you only need a 2 pos switch. B, D, for lights as the L, and H functions are now being done by the regulator.

Isn't a 3 position switch OFF - DIM - BRIGHT? If you read my post you answered you saw that I am going to use a regulator and not a cutout relay. Now, how about the generator, 2 brush, or 3 brush with the REGULATOR? 2 right, or did they only make 3 brush generators?

couple things here adrian,

Both of those should be three brush generators unless they have been changed.

Don't know if it matters but the pulleys will NOT interchange between generators. The one with the small pulley has a short shaft armature and is likely from a later tractor such as 100,140,SH/300 etc, and the one with the adjustable pulley is a long shaft.

Three position light switch with a voltage regulator. O D B

NAPA has a6 volt positive ground regulator with a curved bracket to mount on top of the generator in place of the cutout part # VR850. With the hood on no one will know there is not a cutout up there. This regulator works well with 3 brush generators.

The generator for a cutout had an adjustable 3rd brush, and holes on top of the generator to mount the cutout. I do not see the mounting holes on either generator, so these apparently were originally for a regulator that was mounted in a separate location, the curved bracket regulator is not needed
