IH D236 engine

Is it possible for one of these to be so wore out and tired that it won't fire on ether? Has 8100 hours on the meter

whats the story on the tractor?? it how can it be running one minute and not the next. maybe that either can is the problem! give info.

I have never had that on a IH motor but picked up a MF 30 backhoe that the motor had been either to death, almost every ring was shot. it was a perkins 4 cyl same as what they use in the MF165.

Any smoke when turning over??
Sounds like your injection pump may have gone south
Loosen injector lines and see if you get fuel if none you found the problem. Those pumps are hard to get parts for. Spencer diesel has exchange units last I knew

I'll try not to make this too long! It's a 3616 backhoe I got on a trade non running. Person I got it from said he couldn't get fuel out the injector lines so he pulled the pump off. I reinstalled it to time it before I took it apart, I went thru the pump and cleaned it up and put it back on. (The little Pistons in it were stuck, the fuel dried up/leaked out) I got fuel to the nozzles. I pulled the valve cover and it appears everything is moving nothing sticking. I was told it came from an auction 2 owners ago so no history on its condition.

When cranking I get no smoke. No fire on ether. The starter was kinda sick so i give it 24v and got smoke out the exhaust, but the starter give up. (Bad idea I know) that's where I'm at with the machine

Trick I use on glow plug engines is to remove all plugs so the engine turns over faster/easier. IF the fuel system is working, crank the engine UNTIL you see air/fuel mist blow out of each injector, then you KNOW there's fuel at each one. Install the plugs, engine should then start if in time after the plugs are heated. The D-236 was the worst starting six built, even when new. D-282 was much better..

It should've smoked on either or knock but I've had those injection pumps go bad and I cost an arm and a leg because they head in pump expensive and check your pump timing and see if it's moved maybe the cam gears went out I had a 756 with that German diesel that I had to head off the machine shop set the valves up in the head too far it had to use either to get it started on the first thing in the day but it would run the rest the day one she got some heat buildup in the engine but if it won't run or knock on the ether there is a problem there

I had the glow plugs out when I was priming up the lines, but I didn't think to see if it a fuel mist would come out. Cam timing appeared to be correct as valves on 1 were closed @ top dead mark. I'd really hate to sink a bunch of Money into the motor to find out the rest of the thing is total junk.

I had a 706 one time the guy used either on it all the time and then it would not start it will get plenty of fuel and it wouldn't run on the either we toured apart and found out that all the rings were stuck to pistons it wouldn't let it build compression

i believe its 1/8 npt for the glow plugs. need to remove them . i started making an adapter but never finished it.
