Converting the 300 to 12V

Wanting to convert the 300 to 12v and go with electronic start. Just wondering what alternator you would recommend. Some people have said I need a different voltage regulator other don't say I do.

Yes and it fits under the hood. When I did the conversions at the farm YEARS ago I used the little tiny 35 amp altinator from the 6cyl. engines in AMC cars. They fit perfectly. Ahhhhhh the memories.

(quoted from post at 00:58:02 10/09/17) Look up Charles Repair, he has a nice kit.

You need to look at Charlie's Repair to find my web site. Charles Repair will not work.

Most important is the fact that the tractor will need to be switched to negative ground. If you don't
all the charge will leave your new alternator in a puff of smoke. The wires on the amp gauge will
also need swapped from side to side when the switch is made.

Darn post edit don't work! Wanted to add, I'm not sure what "electronic start" is? A 300 should already have a starter solenoid which engages with a key switch. All of which will work fine on 12 volts. Unless you meant electronic ignition?

Thank you everyone for the pictures, really will help. Parts will be in about Thursdayish so will be the weekend project.

When I changed my 300 U to 12V, I put on a Generator from a early 60s Chevy. Pretty much a match, no modifying brackets or the hood.
