Replacement Water Pump Quality

Hey guys. I know this has been probably discussed before but does anyone have any experience with the water pumps made in India for Farmall 140, 240, 424, etc. gas tractors? This is the water pump that the fan
mounts to, not the one that mounts at the bottom of the motor. Reason I am asking is because Steiner Tractor offers one aftermarket for a little over $100.00, and another place on eBay offers one (they say
made in India) for around $56.00 and Free Shipping....HALF PRICE!!! I know Steiner's is great quality because typically that is all they sell. Not sure where theirs is made though. I also know alot of people
that have rebuilt their old ones. I'm not wanting to do that. I would not argue on the price typically because for the quality Steiner one it is worth it; but I need to purchase 5 water pumps and it is quite
the price difference!!

Has anyone had experience with the India ones and does anyone know if they are the same as Steiner's? I did notice that the Steiner pump has a lip on the hose connection area where the other does not. Just
trying to get the best deal on a water pump since I need to buy 5 of them!

do a google search and see if anyone makes them in the usa. theres also a place in mexico Missouri called walts tractors. you can google them. the sell parts for the international tractors. they are very good and will ship by the post office. you can call them. very good people.

Check with NAPA about having yours rebuilt. I went that way and kept the tractor more original for no more money!

Looks like 15-20 of them on Ebay; claim to be "NEW".... I wouldn't be afraid -especially at the price. Look for a "5-star" seller and go for it.

When I restored my Farmall 240 almost three years ago I ordered the one from Steiner's and it looked like some child made it in their sand box as the casting was so poor. Don't know if it would have bolted up or not as it never got but a few inches from the box it was shipped in. The lower round cast hose to pump connection was anything but round for starters. I returned it back to Steiner's and obtained a CaseIH one from Bermuda Ken at Johnson Tractors in Wisconsin. The one from CaseIH looked like the original and I believe it was made in this country and certainly not across the big blue lake to our west. It was twice the price of the Steiner one but was very well made and the casting looked as you would expect compared to the original. I don't recall where the one from Steiner's was made but certainly appeared to be very crude and most likely India, China or some other place known for poor quality items. I don't know anything about the one noted on eBay but doubt it would be anything you would want to put much trust in for that price. The lip you note for the hose connection was anything but consistent in shape and placement from the end of the casting as it appeared spiraled around the cast opening on the one I received from Steiner's. I do obtain some items from Steiner's but the water pump I received was far from what I would consider an acceptable part, Hal.

I got a Gates water pump for our Olds, which ended
up made in China.
I didn't like it but thought----Gates---pretty good name
for parts. Had a lifetime guarantee, so put it on.

Well, it lasted about a year before it started leaking.
The outfit gave a new one which has been on for 3 years.

For our combine pumps, we get IH reman pumps. Can't take
a chance there.

This site shows a pump for a 140 etc. for $66. See link. Not sure if this is the type you are describing as "fan mount" I am not familiar with those models. I can't vouch for the quality, but in general the comments I have heard about YT parts are mostly positive.
