Farmall c hard to start

Guys,

Removed gas tank to repair hole. Replaced plugs and wires one at a time. Gapped to .025. Installed a wiring kit I had from tractor supply. Tractor has mag.

Ran poorly when parked but tank was plugging up with rust and crud. Washed tank out with gas only.

Did not remove carb.

When it runs it's like it's missing and then it tries to catch up.

I guess I should make sure carb is clear.

Other ideas?

The fitting that stays in the carb when you remove the fuel line has a screen in it. Unscrew that to
see if it is clear. Clean it out with carb cleaner and an air blower.

Running the same now as before? You can then pretty much eliminate the ignition work you did as the cause.

If you didn't take the carb off and it is still running bad, then logically that is the next step. You're right on track.

Very likely the crud in the gas tank got into the carb. The sediment bowl filters the large chunks out but real fine stuff can get down to the carb. Normally an occasional particle here and there is not an issue on these wide-tolerance engines but if enough goes through at once, it can cause problems.

Before you start pulling parts and second guessing do some simple trouble shooting. Do the test in order because if you do not you can cause a fire
#1 make sure you have a good blue/white spark at all the plug wires that will jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. Plug wire on a mag HAVE to be real wire plug wires not the type made for cars and truck.
#2 pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in under 3 minutes.
#3 when was the last time you serviced the air cleaner it could be full of water and mud
