Farmall Cub Grille

I have a 1953 Farmall Cub that I bought restored a couple years ago. It has a pressed steel front grille that looks a lot like the front grille on a Farmall 350 or 400 tractor. I have noticed that many IH Cubs have just a metal screen instead of a pressed steel grille. I'm curious, what is the reason for that and does it have something to do with the year the tractor was built? Thanks for any input!

The Farmall Cub grille was a screen from 47 to sometime in 54, at serial number 185001. It then went to an eleven bar grille. Can not say why the eleven bar grille is on your tractor other than it fits.

Most likely, the original grill was damaged or lost sometime between 1955 and 1958. At that time the current 11-bar grille was the replacement grille for the Cub, and that is what the IH dealer sold you if you needed one.

Alternatively, someone anytime between 1955 and the day you bought the tractor could have put that grill on because they thought it looked better than the original.
