putting regular to bed

Proper mix of coolant (less than 3 years old) to the normal level in the radiator is not only good protection from freezing, it is anti corrosion and
mellows out the temperature change as the engine changes from day temps to 4 am and back to day temps. Leave it in. Jim

Agreed. As long as the coolant tests for the sub-freezing temperatures you expect during the winter, leave it in.

Get one of those squeeze bulb deals with the floating needle, or balls. Costs a couple bucks. Good tool to have in your toolbox.

(quoted from post at 21:58:26 10/02/17) I'm putting to bed for winter, should the water jacket be drained empty, or should I keep the radiator some what full with anti freeze for the winter,[email protected]. thank you.

So I'm wondering why you're not keeping anti freeze in regular all the time. I have a Farmall Super A and haven't changed anti-freeze in several years. I just use one of those checkers with the float balls each Fall and add accordingly,or not. Pembroke

"squeeze bulb deal"=hydrometer
It measures density. As higher-density ethylene glycol (about 10% more dense than water) is added to lower-density water, the total density of the solution increases and more balls float (the balls have varying density). You want your balls to float in this case.

thank you I will test and leave it in-
also I have a 59 low boy, chains on new tires or have calcium pumped into the tires for traction and weight. I don't know what the new name is for that stuff...wish someone delivered and pumped it in, rather than renting or buying a trailer, i'm in central ct.
:D
