1066 Won't Engage High or Low

Tractor Ran fine yesterday! Today, started up, was in low gear, placed in neutral and engaged parking brake. Then, raised plow to grease. Lowered plow, took parking brake off and now will not go into High or Low gear. Need guidance.

It sounds like the park brake isnt completely dis-engaging. Might be slightly out of adjustment or some dirt of foreign matter stuck in it. I had an 806 and 966 both do that. I took off floor and needed covers and cleaned it up good and they started working again. Good Luck. funtwohunt

There is a rollpin on the leakage behind the battery it mite
came out and if the lever goes back-and-forth and leakage
moves under the plateform it could be the high and low
shifting fork

What do you mean by "won't go into high or low gear?"

Does the lever seem stuck in neutral? Then it might be Funtwohunt's suggestion.

Does the lever flop back and forth from High to Low, but doesn't seem to engage a gear? Then it might be IHTimmy's suggestion.

Thanks for providing another thing to check. We will check it out and report back. Thanks again!

The lever easily moves back and forth, not tight enough, used to be stiff going into low gear and would sometimes grind when placing in low gear.

well here again we are working with limited info , But i'll give it a shot . Remove the right had side Cowel cover and to do this ya have to remove the upper center part of the hood or top cowl cover . It is possible that the little ball socket linkage fell apart if the shifter just flops around . Fairly easy fix . You can get the parts at your friendly Case I H dealer or if you have and industrial supply house around ya can get the same thing there for a lot less . Now if this is not the case then your problem more then likely if under the range cover or down under the floor plate Here again sort easy . If it is not a cab tractor , Cab tractor NOT SO MUCH .

Common problem. Something has broken in the high-low linkage going to the range transmission. This is commonly a roll pin, but the problem is when the roll pin breaks, parts fall into the range transmission, and you have to remove the platform and range cover to retrieve them and make the repair.

More than likely the roll pin at the bottom behind the battery. Can get to it from the outside of the housing with no cab. A punch will probably be needed and a new roll pin. I put a second one smaller inside of the first one, after it is in or sometimes before, or a wire through the hole in the pin to keep it from working out end ways.

Yep. it could be that lots of people put Roll pins in there but it is suppose to be a tapered Grooved pin . If it has never fallen out before . But over time they do work loose and fall out and are replaced with a Roll pin . roll pins work ok till one lets the clutch and T/A dump valve get out of adjustment and then the tugging and jerking start to get them out of gear , then the roll pin breaks .
