Disc brakes on H/M

If I remember correctly we would assemble the pads and expander assembly together and then lift them up to the splined shaft and rotate the whole assembly to get the spines to line up. Pre alignment is necessary as you can rotate it only a little bit. If they have the removable cover you can use that hole to line the pads up also.

I always had the best luck assembling the brake parts onto the pinion shaft. When you put the cast cover on, hold it toward the yoke on the expander, put the threaded piece thru the hole and move the cover back and over the brake disks & expander. Guess I never realized it was hard to get the disks lined up on the splines.

You got an H and an M or a Super H and Super M? Might make a difference.

Most H's and M's that have disk brakes have the aftermarket Lambert disk brakes, which may go together differently than the factory IH brakes which came on the last few hundred H's and M's and all Supers.

This a H with Lambert disc brakes I have figured out after looking on youtube. Finally got one side on after much wiggle/ jiggle.

shaun, i have a copy of the lambert disk brake maual scanned on my computer. shoot me an email and i can send it to you. i cant figure out how to post a scanned document. my email is open

I just had the Lambert brakes off my H and did jack up the wheel so I could turn it a bit to help get them back on. They are much more difficult than factory disc because of the much finer splines. What I also did was take the rivets out of disc and made a two paper discs out of .030 thickness gasket material on one disc on each brake. This brought the assembled clearance to about .020 to .030 and made that brake work like it is supposed to . Where I slipped up was I should have added another shim to second disc on the second side I did as it ended up with more clearance than I wanted. Never drove it out of the barn after assembling the second brake so don't know if that one works as good as first one. Will one of these cooler days. My biggest problem was finding tubular rivets. Could have ordered them online but Acco dealer has an old riveting machine and had extra rivets in a drawer.

Got it ! After fighting with trying to cover over aucator on tractor. Finally put aucator and disc in cover and it just jumped rite on.
