update on 354 engine update

got it all back together, went with the 154 kit insted of 144, also used the 154 head off of junker i had.
everything sounds nice and smooth, with good oil pressure.

the only thing wrong is oil is still coming up and out the dipstick.
was doing this before rebuild.

oil filler cap is clean and venting, also tube from injector housing
to air intake is clean.
what is causing this?

Hi Steven, overhauled a lot of these engines over the years. I allwaYs gave the
engine some moderate work before I took the tractor back to the customer. MJ

If the dip stick tube lower end is submerged, the oil level is either two high or the tube is shoved in. If the oil level is two high is might be being contaminated by Hydraulic fluid.
If the venting system PCV or draft tube is missing that would sure use the dip stick hole as a crank case vent. Some engines were vented through the valve cover, some through the head casting, and some from the lower block. Jim

I'd suspect one of two issues....either the crankcase pressure from natural blowby is not finding its intended route and is using the dipstick as a path of venting...or...if the crankshaft is splashing thru the liquid level of the oil (due to overfill) in the pan, all kinds of weird things are going to happen but it usually results in oil coming out of somewhere unexpected.

Is it possible the dipstick is from another engine or another tractor and is calling out a level which is too high?

oil level is good, put in just over gallon and 1/2.
shows just shy of full on dip stick.
dip stick tube looks just like the other parts engine i got.

not pushing a lot of oil out, but should not be any.
just venting through tube instead of the other spots.
