Upgraded Tire Size

Hello,

It appears both my front tires on my wide front IH 460 have dry rotted and require replacement. Does anyone have an idea what size I should shoot for if I want a wider stature that still fits the original rim? The bicycle tires tend to fall into the mud too easy...

They look like this size...

Thanks,
Beefey

6.50x16 is the correct size for that rim.You could put 7.50x16 on,but that would not gain you much, and would look funny.Best bet is to get new rims and go with 9.5L15 tires.

The tires are probably oversized for those rims now.

Putting wider tires on narrow rims does not work well, They are difficult to install, pinch in at the beads, and end up bulged at the tread, so they really aren't putting any more contact to the ground.

Really, an inch or two of width is not going to make any difference in mud. Narrow tires are better because they cut through mud and give you directional control, where the wider tires will just push mud ahead of them and bog you down.
