Farmall h grounding spots

So I just recently purchased this farmall and it was repainted. I believe it was disassembled prior which may be part of the weak charging. Where are spots I need to ensure have good connection/ground? Where should the generator be grounded and the switch box? Thanks in advance guys.

Just clean the paint where the componet mounts to the tractor. You can check when done with an OHM meter one lead to batt ground and other to componet that way you know they have ground to the battery.

Generator should ground itself thru the mounting ears and tension bracket.

If your H has the OEM cutout (4-position light switch) the ammeter box, box cover, light switch and steering post must ALL be securely grounded for the charging system to work. I like to run a dedicated ground wire from the switch to a frame ground - it's not "original" but it saves a lot of headaches, especially with a newly painted tractor.

However if it has a voltage regulator then only the VR base must be solidly grounded. Again I like to run a dedicated ground wire from the VR base to a good ground.

Ok so I'll take off the geny and sand the contact points. Then I'll ground the switch to tractor but where and how do I attach wire to switch?

On my 1950 H the best most reliable grounds are separate green ground wires to individual parts, like light sockets, and a big honkin' Case-IHC ground strap run directly to the starter mount bolt. I avoid all those old rusty old corroded dust-filled frame joints and sheet metal joints.

To the screw that holds the ground end of the field resistor.
So that would be the connection with the wire wrapped resistor??

Sorry if I missing this. But I am to connect the ground wire to the spot where the field resister attaches to the switch? Not the end that the field wire from the generator attaches to the resister. Then I can ground it to the big bolt on th starter
