Another question on this IH584 steering

I see where this site offers a steering shaft hydrostatic motor part #3121187R91. Would this part fix my problem with the oil leak that is just under the sheering wheel. My thinking is the seal below the steering wheel got melted when this tractor burned

RING, seal, order seal and spring package 1500443C91 Is the part number from IH for a seal kit. I do not know the availability. I think but do not know that it comes out along the shaft with the wheel off. Jim

From what I was told on another post I asked about this it is not a simple pull the old seal out type of thing and that is takes special tools to do the job so figured since Y-T offers the steering shaft assembly that might be the way to get around the problem of special tools etc.

You can do this yourself, but I went on CaseIH's website and looked up the steering system for a 584.

3121187R91 is what I would consider the "hand pump" the part you turn with the steering wheel that sends pressurized fluid to the front axle to make it turn.

IMHO it may be wise to replace it entirely anyway. Who knows what other damage was done by the fire.

Going by the picture in the Y-T parts area the 3121187R91 is the top part of the steering control box and looks like it would be a simple 4 bolts out then 4 bolts back in the maybe fix the seal area in question and the cost if only around $50. But is it really that simple???

Here is a post from a few years ago from Bernard Le Mechano:

Hi TDK, on the 574 tractor, like 74 and 84,85,95 series, it's a Danfoss steering valve. You have to remove all the valve from the tractor and open the valve to change the seal. Some part inside have to be timed, so if you haven't opened a Danfoss valve before, good luck. Best way, take the valve to a CaseIh dealer and ask them to change the seal. To install the seal, you need a special tool. Be careful when you remove the steering wheel, don't blow on the shaft with a hammer, remove the wheel with a puller. I have done many seal changes when I worked for CaseIh dealer.

The whole assembly is called a hand pump.You do not want to disassemble it yourself.It is kind of a pain to remove the whole unit.And it has to be completely disassembled to replace the seal.If your entire dash is melted,then maybe the seal is gone.We send our hand pumps to a hydraulic shop,and have them replace the seal.I don't believe that part (shaft) you listed will fix your leak.I would call and find good used hand pump.Mark
