I have a 706 gas that when i use the brakes the pedal moves very little and very little braking action. I have the Clymer shop manual for the tractor. Thru my search My problem may be that the drum is full of crud that needs cleaned out. I understand how to take the drum off , my question is , Is anything going to fall out ( I hate surprises) When I take it off? The manual is pretty vague on removal. Thanks Jeff

Well one never knows what may fall out till one removes the drum . Ya got some return springs in there that are probably packed full of crud , your brake adjusters are probably frozen ya may find that the brake adjust one way clips broken , ya probably find the isolator pad fallen off a cocked brake piston and wore out brake discs. leaking brake piston seals , bull pinion seals leaking . Now the hard part is when going back together setting the brake adjuster screws and i really don't know how to explain this as i can do them but not sure how to explain how to . and the the plate has to go in only one way . Screws shold be bottomed out so that the spring clips are fully against the screw head and the ehad of the screw should be flush with the plate , the plate gose in between the two disc's Watch when you take it apart so you see what way the screw head go . also there are two dowels , They may come out with the drum due to rusting . they are suppose to be in the axle housing . the dust slots on the bottom of the brake drum can be inlarged a bit to allow brake dust to fall out easier. To remove the brake piston it is best to tap the housing on the bench and BUMP it out , using compressed air to BLOW the piston out can end up going badly . .

Thanks , So short answer is yes. I was hoping to pull it off clean it and put it back together.
