Autolight 386 vs 3116

There were autolight 386 plugs in the Super A when i got it. It has a mag so I put 3116 in because they're non resistor plugs and i guess that's what you need to use from what I've read but are these hot enough? I've read that if your plugs are not hot enough you'll have to use choke to run smooth which is the problem I'm having. I'm thoroughly cleaning the carb again but I'm wondering if plugs might be an issue too?

3116 should be fine for a Super A with a Magneto. I'm doubtful that the plugs are a problem. Are your plug wires copper, or resistor wire? They should be copper.

A small intake manifold air leak can also cause the need for some choke.

Pull each plug wire off and then look at the end that goes to the plug or mag. You should be able to see if it has a true wire hooked there or if it is a the resistance type wires. If resistance type it will not at all look like the normal wire you see on stuff.

Not home too look but if I buy a new set they all say copper wire coated with aluminum for mag and distributors. That is what i need right?

Especially with a Magneto Ignition I prefer NON Resistor Plugs like the Autolite 3116 and wire core NOT carbon core suppressor plug wires. I doubt ONLY the plugs are your problem. It can help reduce fouling (like that flat black sooty plug color fouling due to over rich excess fuel) if you get and keep the engine temp up,,,,,,,,,,,,run carb on the lean side,,,,,,,,,,,insure the choke butterfly plate is full open,,,,,,,,,,,insure no air inlet or cleaner restrictions,,,,,,,,,,,keep it well tuned (plugs points condenser wires cap n rotor) with a good hot spark

Yep, I think the heat range in order is 386,,,,,,,,3116,,,,,,,,,,388 BUT ONLY 3116 is a NON Resistor
