Another problem on this IH584

So I have of had the cooling system put together but found the thermostat was sticking so have a new one to put in here in a little bit. But that is not the next problem.

I fired it up yesterday and noticed I had hyd fluid leaking out from under the steering wheel. So can I fix the leak by pulling the steering wheel off and then pulling a seal and then install a new seal??

I also tried to bleed the brakes but go no fluid out of the bleeder even when I pushed the brake pedal down so what is up there??
Thanks

You need to take the hand pump and go through it with the seal kit and O-rings for the breaks you have to push him like on the car you don't pump them up they're not pressure Flow brakes those valves might be bad on the brakes this track really must got hot

Hi Old, depending if it is an early model 584 or late model there may be a plastic hydraulic fluid reservoir for the brake system under the battery box that may have been melted. According to caseih.com parts any 584 with s/n greater than 4449 should have the reservoir. See item #1 in link below.

584 Brake Reservoir

Why don't you go to the dealer and get a picture of the tractor and where you want it on parts list circle everything you need this tractor I'm i'm saying if you get a picture of where you're working out it would be a lot better yes those tractors had a reservoir of the brakes they came out of the 84 series and there just to keep for reservoir it he probably got melted and there is a hose from the Oil cooler that supplies the fluid to that reservoir if it got that hot it probably did damage to the brake valves there is an equalizer valve there you might take the cover between your legs off it take off take the seat at the bracket that the seat set on I have one at all tore down getting ready to paint that we have setting on a Stand I could send you pictures if I had your email address of this tractor there you're working on or the whole tractor I just deleted email address and I would said everything

Well I do know it is the later model because it has the swing out hyd cooler in front of the radiator. So maybe now I have a clue as to what the lines are for that no longer have any hoses on them on the right side of the steering wheel are for. There are 3 or 4 lines that just sit there now because what ever was there is not there due to the fire. Guess sooner or later I am going to need to get an I-T IH203 manual so maybe I will know more about it. I have the 202 but it does not cover the IH584

Hi OLD, I have the I&T 202 which has 684, 784, 884 and Hydro 84. These 84 models are all the same except for the engine.
The 584 is identical to 684 except engine D-206 vs D-239. There were improvements that were made in the higher serial numbers.
Re Brake reservoir, see figure-152 in I&T 202 manual.
My brother has 454(D-179), 495(D-179), 474(D-206), 684(D-239) and 3230(D-206) two generations newer that your 584.
The 3230 has some major differences as the T/A is switched by an electrical switch on the left of the dash and I believe the parking brake mechanism is much improved over the old band over the drum mechanism. The older models have the "Z" shift pattern and the newer ones have the "H" shift pattern.
So far the I&T 202 manual and caseih.com parts have been sufficient as these models are very reliable if proper maintenance has been performed.

I prefer the D-179 and D-206 over the D-239 engine.

On some 584s,I believe I have seen the brake reservoir mounted up high, like it's predecessor, the 574.On later models ,I believe the reservoir is mounted low, under the battery box.I would take off the box to access the reservoir,it's easy to remove. The way the hoses go on the reservoir is very important, and you will need a schematic of the routing. The keep full line comes from the cooler line with the 'y' in it.Then there is a return to the trans top,and 2 lines to the master cylinders.I think the return line has a stand pipe inside the reservoir.
If the hand pump for the steering does indeed need a seal,I think that the seal can only be replaced by disassembling the entire pump. And that is VERY complicated, probably best left to a hydraulic shop.
I would get all the other leaks repaired, before I would worry about the hand pump.Good luck,Keep us posted.Mark.

As of right now the only leaks I have are from just below the steering wheel and also some times from the right side of the steering cylinder but not sure where it comes out of the steering cylinder. Sort of looks like it comes out the end of the cylinder it self which to me is odd but maybe from the fitting above it

Well if this 584 has a TA would it have been a electrical switch type?? Since I am starting it by using a wire off the solenoid to battery and that and the battery cables are all that is has for wiring right now. Alternator seems like it is fried also and it probably not factory since it is the common Delco 10si. Guess I need to maybe look at the IH202 manual and see if it helps me at least get into the ball park on some of this. While brakes would be nice the front end loader has always worked well as a brake in case of trouble. As for a brake reservoir if it had one it sure does not now but that area got real hot and even the battery was just a big molten mess and the dash well it does not have one. Shoot the seat it has now is off and old dead riding lawn mower I have and says Craftsman's on it

Hi Old, the 584 would have had the T/A with the lever on left side of dash unless it was a very late model. The 585 had the now called "Two Speed" transmission with the electric switch on left of dash and the improved heady duty T/A assembly.
Re electrical, the 74/84 series sold in here in Canada had Lucas electrical system including starter and alternator. The crate units that were shipped to the USA and assembled in Louisville KY had US made Delco starters and alternators. At least that was my understanding. Someone on this site may correct or add additional info on the USA assembled units. There were many used tractors
that were bought in Canada and imported to the USA.

ivor from uk here and I used to work at IH dealer 40 years ago and to bleed brakes there is pipe you need to clamp with mole grips in order to bleed brakes properly and regarding fluid leaking under steering wheel is a biggish job as you need to remove steering valve also a special tool is needed to fit new seal,i remember back in 1976-77 there was a run of leaking steering valves , I hope this is helpful !!

Ok so not likely have a TA then. It has the 1,2,3,4 gear in line with each other and a control with low forward and out high forward and in and reverse towards the back.

As for the steering leak that may be one that is very hard and or costly to fix if I am reading it right form all the people who have answered me
