How much value does the optional after market M & W hand clutch add to a Farmall M or what are they worth today /

Some would say 600 to 800 more. Some think less. The value is in the ability to use it to keep the PTO operating while in gear. Issues are that (according to several opinions) it isn't as strong as the master clutch and can slip under tillage conditions. Parts are rare and very expensive. Jim

I got two M's with M @ W hand clutches, never used them for tillage because i got bigger tractors for that,And Jims right about parts, being expensive, but i always figured the foot clutch would slip first. There's about 3 dry clutches stacked together. As far as value, no opinion!!

Dad had one on his SH and mounted corn picker for a while. He took it out because, according to him, you had to re-adjust the clutches every morning that you went to pick corn and replace the clutches every year. I think you may have to have the clutches made today to replace them. gm

Here in Western Colorado.an M is an M. The M/W wouldn't make much if any difference. Yes,the hand clutch will slip before the foot clutch. However it has never slipped 'farming',but will slip while on a pulling sled.My SuperM has one.It has worked well for many years.Because I don't use it anymore for baleing,I'm thinking of removeing it and selling(hand clutch,NOT the SM).

I have 2 M's with that feature. They are worth a lot to me. I actually prefer the hand clutch to the SMTA. The last tractor I bought, I paid about $200.00 more because it had the hand clutch. I have never had one slip, but that is because I bought a 5 gal. bucket of parts from an old boy in Michigan years ago. Ellis
