Super C Won't start

I have a 1954 Farmall Super C that I use for general small work around the farm. I have been pulling a 6' wide finishing mower with it along the driveway and out front by the road. Lately it has been getting harder to start, especially when it is hot after mowing for awhile. My Chinese made starter on it quit a month ago, and I have had to crank start it or park it on a hill when I take a break. Now I have been mowing for a few hours in 85 degree heat and I stalled it in some heavy grass and can't get it started at all by cranking it. I had a similar problem a few years ago and solved that problem by putting a new coil on the ignition system. But this one is a Chinese made one. Any suggestions for checking it and if it is the coil where to get a good one?

Check your points, see if they are pitted/dirty and if they are set to right gap. Mine gets hard to start sometimes and 90% of the time its the points.

Do yourself a favor and go to NAPA and purchase an Echlin coil. I will probably outlast you. Stop buying cheap chinese junk!

i had one that begin to get harder to start. the coil wire was burning up, from the end. do you have copper ignition wires on the tractor?

I would pull the center wire out of the distributor cap and see if a ~1/4" spark to ground can be generated as you crank the engine. That's a good place to start.

Identical thing happened to my H, it was the worn-away center post inside the distributor cap. Put on a new one, and a new rotor, started instantly. Problem solved.
