Complex answer because IIRC it was phased out and optional for a few years. (it was always an option and tractors could be purchased with a loop drawbar) Probably (guess) 1968 was the beginning of the end. Great idea left in the weeds because of the lack of reasoning on the part of IH administration. Jim

It didn't sell in some parts of the country, but the Hiniker Snow Plows used that concept and thought that was the real deal.. In fact i know of a dealer had 3 brand new fast hitch plows, 3-4 bottom size, and hired a junk dealer to come in to his place and cut them up for scrap iron in the middle 80's!

My brother has a 'Blackstripe' 966 ('76) that has a fast hitch.I know of one other 966 with a fast hitch.

I'M not Jim, and the statement that Deere wanted rights to produce IH'S Fast Hitch and FH implements is true. Not rumor.

I still think there is a market for fast hitch, particularly in the utility tractor class. Every time someone with a kubota or the like sees me hitch/unhitch they are blown away.

I'd imagine the patent has long expired but you'd have to license to use the fast hitch name.

66 series is the last I knew of any sporting the fast hitch.

(quoted from post at 14:42:43 08/22/17) Jim , do you think there is any truth in the rumor that J.D. wanted to build the Fast-Hitch under license?
----------------------------------------------------------------

The rumor is true in that JD was tired of the Ferguson royalties on every 3 point they built. IH was too snooty and arrogant and couldn't see the forest for the trees. They were more concerned about competition from Deere than paying Ferguson royalties. if they had let Deere in on the Fast Hitch, I suspect the Fast Hitch would still have ben the hitch of choice today.

As far as I know, the last Fast-Hitch tractors were the Cubs and 140s with one-point systems (1979).

The 3-point hitch had no royalties after the Ford-Ferguson suit was settled (1952 or so).
