SMTA Choke Linkage

Can anyone post a pic of a correct choke linkage at the carb? Mine is out of whack somehow, not timed right to the shaft or something, when the rod is all the way back, choke is only half closed, have to manually close the butterfly and open after it starts
Thanks

I will venture a guess that the choke lever has slipped on the choke shaft. Probably will need to remove it from the carb to fix it.

Is the shaft end just peened to the lever? Seems to be nice and solid, just seems to be about 90 degrees out of whack

Going to try a couple pics here. Forward-open, back-closed

Could it have a M choke shaft stuck in there? If round part of lever is to rear I would suspect that.

I've seen some choke shafts that are splined with a lever to match and the end of the shaft is peened. I've seen many more with a simple flat on the shaft and corresponding lever, and those are also peened. Most of the aftermarket replacements are of the latter variety, and I've even encountered a few of the aftermarket choke shafts that were neither splined or had a flat. Just the round shaft with a round hole in the lever and a feeble attempt at peening. Some of those are loose on the shaft right out of the box.

Should look like first picture when choke plate is around wide open. If it looks like the second picture around wide open it sounds like what you have from the description on operating it. First shaft is a SM and last is a M. M was a lot more common in rebuild kits. Indent ball can't work right with the M on a SM.

2x what Mr. Slater says. Just in case you don't know, a straight M has the choke lever on the outboard side of the carb. Most if not all Supers and all SMTAs were inboard (close to engine) so the wrong choke shaft installed in your carb is what he is suggesting.
