400 vs SMTA

I recently bought a 400. TA and LPTO 'delete'.I have a'parts/junk' SMTA.I am thinking of 'transplanting' the smta rear end onto the 400.will it work? Will it bolt up? Thanks,Steve

I think it will. The platform from the 400 could have the attachment point for the early 400 fast hitch. If it does you would need to use it rather than the SMTA lid. Attachment points for the Fast hitch might be another conflict. Look them over to be sure. Jim

They both have an M style hoop drawbar. I will make a 3 point the on the 400.Like the ones I've made on my other 'old' farmalls.

Cool. Our Big tractor was an early production 400. it always made good power and my brother still owns it. I wanted to ask how the soybean crop came out and did it make sense to try it again? Jim

Basically the same except transmission tops with forks and clutch pedal design. Can use pedal desired though. When mounting 400 hydraulics and sheet metal the 400 transmission top would be best to use. Shifter hole in a 400 top moved more to rear verses the SMTA and shifter pivot point raised to give a shorter shift throw because of less room between battery box and instrument panel, but longer gear shifter on the 400 takes part of that away. If using SMTA from front of clutch housing back and IPTO the PTO shift handle was a different shape between the tractors but both work if other parts are cleared. Gear ratios the same.

This 400 is a '56 model. it inly has one hydraulic valve, and a single front tire. It also has an F-11 loader(which be removed and probably sold)
.The Smta has a wide front that will be put on the 400.The Soybeans were a 'screaming' success. They made 44 bpa.they were chest high on me last year. the 4 acres brought in over 2200 dollars! :)
