Farmall 300 Hyd. Control Valve

I have a leak under the dash of my 300, and it appears to be coming from the control valve area. I can't tell if its from the valve handle or from the bottom of the unit. I have the IH parts diagram, but I guess I'm not smart enough to know what gaskets, etc. I may need to get to stop the leak. Can anyone give me any help as to what parts could need replaced? I think while I'm there I'll go ahead and replace as many seals as I can so I won't have to worry about it again for a while.

Thanks, Mac

Most of the seals are Orings. That includes block to block and spool to spool seals. Some might be pretty unique to IH, but I would try Motion Industries or Kaman Bearing before spending way more than reasonable. Jim

I thought I had a leak in the hydraulics on my 300 but it turned out to be the oil pressure gauge that was leaking where the line connected to the back of it and dripping down from there. Once I replaced the gauge I had better oil pressure (so it appeared) and no more leaking oil.

That's also a problem that I've had. New IH gauge showed up today to replace sorry $12 tsc version. I will try that first to see, but the oil coming out onto the footplate smells like hydraulic oil. It's looking like I'm gonna have to take the dash off to pin it down, too. Oh well.

Yep, lots of O-rings, almost all are standard sizes available at an auto parts store or maybe even TSC. The only gaskets on the valves themselves are under the oval cover on each valve that is held down with 2 bolts. There are a couple gaskets on the larger castings on the reservoir housing. I replaced EVERY seal, gasket and O-ring on my 450 this spring when redoing the rear end, TA and engine. Lots of O rings on the valve (my 450 has 3 remotes), but they are pretty simple to do, just time consuming.

I did all my o-rings a few years ago. I got mine from IH and they were not all that expensive. There are only 2 or 3 different numbers for the o-rings, but you need several of each for between the valves. After I sealed my valves, I still had a leak. There is another o-ring on the regulator flow control valve that was leaking. Only problem with this $1.00 o-ring is you have to remove the steering shaft and fuel tank to get at the snap ring holding the cap over the valve. The number was 364840r1. Good luck and as I did, take your time and have a lot of Petroleum jelly to hold the o-rings in place as you put it back together.

I did mine on a 300 this spring. I got them from Case/IH dealer, reasonable. There are a lot of them. I got two extra and it was not enough. Disconnect the battery because the ignition wires could ground out. You have to remove the gas tank (it will slide out to the left) you also have to loosen the tin and gauge plate and push back to get the long bolts that hold the remotes together out. Handles and linkages must also be removed. It took me a day to complete, good luck..
