Hey guys I'm new to this site. I've been pulling my dads jd a in the 45 and 55 hundred pound class for years. Now I want my own to pull. I would like to pull in the 4500 pound class and MAYBE the 5500 pound class. Was thinking of getting a jd b but what I've read is it takes a lot of money to build a competitive b. How I'm looking a farmall h's . Anyone pull those? Is it worth it? Looking for any and all the information I can get. Thanks in advance!

Those weights build a M. The H would be good in the 3500-4000 lb class but 4500-5500 a M will beat it every time. Lots of good part out there to build the M also. Might get more pullers replies if you post this on the external_link below.

What classes are you pulling in and rules in your area. Around here farm stock class you can't strip them down. You have use stock wheels, leave PTO on tractor as well as hydraulics and no light weight frame rails or trans. cover.

An M can be tweaked and remain essentially stock class. or it can be race prepped (according to the Tractor Vet) make upwards of 100 hp and more. Much depends on the rules and inspection practices. Jim

158 compared to 248 cubic inches, A M Farmall is 2 inches wider through the frame rails and about 1000 pounds heavier. Jim

Look for Minneapolis moline ZAU it will beat any H orJD B they are unbeatable in 3500-4000 class

I started looking at those to! Looking at a lot of tractors. Is there anyone that specializes in building farmall motors for pulling?

In round numbers, 100 cubic inches bigger! H = 152 Cid. M = 248. Most M'S now 264. Most H's 157.

If you go crazy, money no object, you can build M's well over 500 Cid. Much harder to build displacement in an H.

Ill tell you straight up. Run. Dont walk. Forget this nonsence. Ive done what your asking already. I was successful in pulling the model h. Ive taken that engine into triple digit horsepower. Its a path not worth traveling my friend.

"Farmstock" , I would say, it depends on the application. A game of low gear, playing from 4000-5000, your looking at a minimum of 40-45 hp out of the h to be at the decent beginning level. In years past, we ran a 0-5000 percent class, which there was a m, that cracked 4895 with cast wheels that I was always battling! Now, I had a super h, it's no slouch. I beat him just as much as he beat me. It was quite fun.
The m, was a 4 inch overbore, no lp head, but, it didn't lack for power, neither did I, but my super h, had just an overbore, and very light head work. Its not even ported.
The real reason, I told you, it's not worth it, is simply good advice, cause you can really stun a lot with a good H.
You mite end up like me, disliked lol.
