Super A temp guage

This may be a dumb question, but what is the difference between oil and water temp gauges? I have a Super A. Need new touch control temp guage. I can get one for about $70. I can get a water temp for about $12. I can make the metal holder to place guage on touch control panel.

Both gauges in looking at, water and oil, have lighted face, 6' cap tube, and different npt adapters. (I believe I need 3/8).

Any help would be appreciated.

"what is the difference between oil and water temp gauges?"

For your application, the difference would be if there's "oil temperature" or "water temperature" printed on the gauge face.

An oil temp gauge would be incremented to 300 degrees, water temp to probably 245 or so. There are hundreds of options on the net both mechanical (tube like the water temp gauge) and electrical with a sending unit. They can be found rather inexpensively. Jim

The face as you dont want oil to read hot as that would be boiling. The guages are calibrated for the material they are reading. But cheap import could all be the same bulb just different face. Only way to tell would be have one of each and in liquid together then with different therm read water temp then compare the reading on the guages

Isn't likely you'll ever see the hyd. temp. gauge move anyway. I installed a new one on my Super C about 20 years ago and it ain't moved, think it was a hundred bucks or more.
