I have a question. I bought a Cub the serial number plate shows 817 can't read anything else. The code on the block reads 12 21 T. I started power washing and the front rims and snow plow are white and the rest of the tractor is silver under the red. Why?? What were the serial for the Demonstrator tractor

Demonstrators were 99536 to 106511 approximately. 12 21 T is December 21 1950. Demo's were January, February and March of 1950 and not all serial numbers in that time frame were painted white. Check for more casting codes on the torque tube, touch control, rear end and steering bolster. Rims and snow plow could be off a cub after they changed to yellow and white. The silver is any ones guess as to how many previous owners it had. Have you got a picture ?

12.21.T could also be Dec. 21, 1972. White wheels would have been the norm at that time. You should be able to read the engine number (near the carburetor).

The casting date could indicate an early 1951 or 1973 Cub because there was a lag time between casting and using the cast parts in the assembly line.

This is what a 1950/1951 would look like:

You can only speculate on why a previous owner would paint the tractor silver. It was likely a personal preference.
