W-30 radiator....Yikes!

Well men I think I "bit off more than I can chew" on this new project! Took radiator to shop to have it cleaned; I was hopeful, but I was wrong: he called today and said it needs " new core" plus all the time he is having getting old bolts out and fixing other things. Didn't really expect this. Im looking at $600-$900 bucks! Any good ideas out there?
 
That is what I would expect. You might find one for 500 but shipping it would make it the same as the repaired one and it night be bad in 6 months. Jim
 
that is just they way they are, most rads are rotten. get a core and do it your self. make your own gaskets also. should be able to get a core for around 300.00 . will need to be good at drilling and tapping though.
 
Ok.....all I have checked are running $400-500.... core....I think I will do it my self, good idea.... I will have all winter! Thanks guys!
 
I'd say to get the radiator back from the shop, and disassemble it yourself. If you have a cutting torch, or MAPP gas torch, that will come in handy heating up the bolts, so you don't twist them off. I've welded nuts on broken bolts, and removed them, that way. Tap all the holes. You should be able to buy gaskets for your tanks. Order the new core, from your radiator shop, or on the internet. Might give some thought to getting a core with an extra row of tubes, for better cooling. You might be able to get a bolt set, for your tractor's radiator, online, or from another vendor. I had no experience with them, and I've done four that have worked fine.
 
Call Frank at Rice Equipment 814-226-9200 get a price on core and most time he will give you two gaskets.
 
I recored my swd9. Doing it myself it was 800 bucks and a boat load of time removing bolts and cleaning up threads. So far no leaks. I guess I'm happy just being able to get parts.
