C-248 rebuild kits

Who makes the best quality rebuild kits for C-248 engines? Will probably need full kit including main and rod bearings, all gaskets and seals. I see some with flattop pistons and some with stepped head pistons, all are overbore. Which is the best to get? Not a puller, just a weekly user. Jim.

This site sells a good quality kit at a very reasonable price. I had no problems overhauling my 400 with one from here. The tractor runs like a top now with exceptional power and no blow-by. The kit contained all the gaskets I needed too! If you do the work yourself you can save a lot of $$$.

Purchasing it here from this site is why they provide this forum. The kits are very complete. Make sure of the correct crank bearing undersize (if needed) to avoid issues. Measuring the crank is essential. Jim

This engine is in a T-6 crawler which used the C-248 engine. I cannot find many parts for the t-6 engine, but I can find lots for the M engine. This engine got water inside and was locked up. I pulled the head and was surprised how clean the head and valves were. Pulled the pan and the flattop pistons were new also as well as sleeves. 4.00 bore so I guess an aftermarket overbore kit was installed. 3 pistons pushed out by hand pressure and 4th came up with a few taps on a oak dowel rod. Rod inserts are standard CLevite brand. Journals show some discolorization, but no pitting. I will measure the journals for wear, but hoping it does not need a grinding.
The parts book show a serial # break between early and late engines. My tractor is a 1951, so would I be looking at early serial # parts or late. Thanks for any guidance, Jim.
