Any ideas on stuck motor? W-30

Well, I'm not sure the book would tell me what to do on this- I just like talking to you all:) Friday night - don't go anywhere..so I just keep working. What I thought would be a "2 hr job" is still on-going; 2 hrs yesterday and 4 hrs today...still don't have the engine out! I pulled the alignment studs...all bolts are out...engine up about 2" on hoist; moved 1" forward and quit! Acks like it is "hung-up"....so....I pulled the pressure plate bolts out and moved it back from the flywheel- didn't help any...and I have tugged on the engine....any ideas?

Could it be the end of the driveshaft is rusted/seized to the pilot bearing in the flywheel? Just a thought, but you never know... I had to remove my entire clutch assembly, pressure plate, disc, driveshaft, and clutch housing cover as a unit, and it took me lots of careful prying, wiggling, and soaking to even get it apart from the engine and flywheel. It was BAD. (See photos)... Note, that is a 24" broom there. I pulled about 15-20 lbs of mice turds, carcasses, dirt, and lord knows what else out of there.

That would be my guess - seized to the pilot bearing... You did disconnect the clutch pedal linkage, right? That would definitely hang it up!

No- I did not. Figured that just runs the throw-out bearing which shouldn't affect it? My clutch looks similar to yours(dirt wise) but not quite as bad- much rust. I'm thinking also the pilot brg is seized on the shaft...just want to make sure im not missing something. Thanks

Well, if the throwout bearing is connected to the shaft, and the shaft runs through the clutch housing cover plate, and that is bolted to the bellhousing of the engine, and the engine is being lifted out - then yes. That would be an issue if the clutch pedal linkage is still attached. If you are trying to leave the clutch housing in place on the drive shaft, then it wouldn't be an issue.

The bearing for the input shaft at the rear of the clutch housing was stuck to the shaft (pretty sure it is pressed on). That made pulling it as an assembly easier... Here is everything all cleaned up out of my parts tractor, but it was BARELY any better than the one pictured in my first post. Lots of elbow grease, wire wheeling, and emery cloth to polish and it looks pretty good. Greased it well and put it back together with a good used pressure plate and disc, and it works flawless.

that farmall set up is not the same as the mccormick W-30. FIRST OF ALL... DID YOU remove belt pulley assenbly? if not remove that big heavy cast with the pully. then remove the 6 3/8 bolts at front of trans. on the coupler. pull pin out of clutch rod. then pull out engine, the clutch and pressure plate and out put shaft all comes out as a unit.

and if I may ask - what model/tractor are u working on or are the parts from? Don't think my tractor is made like this....anywho....something is stuck!

This is from an F20. I know they are different from a W30, but I'm not sure how different. I am just spit balling, trying to cover any bases I can think of. Not trying to waste your time, that is for sure! :)

r u serious? lol no wonder it wont come out; your saying I have to pull the belt pulley assembly? The input shaft "has" to come with the clutch? OK

no- not wasting anyone's time - I appreciate this much...just trying also to figure this out...thanks for your help!

ok and thanks...didn't want to hear that but.....it has to be and I can get it out now. Thanks for the help!

also....would you have an "oil canister" ...this tractor, for some weird reason, doesn't not have an oil filter.....not good. F-20 and 30 are suppose to be the same. Thanks

i said the whole pulley set up... meaning complete gear box not just the pulley! how else can you access the transmission coupler???. i know some tractors have the spline cover when pulley is not mounted.
