Farmall bn value

Hi everybody, an older gentlemen who I have known for years is ready to sell his BN. It was restored probably 10 years ago and the paint is faded out at this point. But other then that it's in great shape the sheetmetal is excellent no rust no dings. He's asking $2100 for it, right now it's tangled up in a bunch of prickers and weeds. It's got rear weights and a belt pulley. My question is do you guys think it's worth what he's asking. He won't move on the price. I'd really hate to have it sit outside any longer all wrapped up in prickers and weeds. I would get a better picture but it's difficult to get to.

I don't think I would offer him $2100. I would want it pulled out of the weeds and make sure that there are no problems that you are not aware of.

Sounds like it's sat outside in the weather for ten years and not run. I'd start at $500 and if he doesn't come down to at least $800-$1000, just walk away. Let him be the one to get it Running and change the oils, etc. And Polish the faded paint. It better have 4 good tires on it too. Ten years of sunlight and ozone can ruin even new tires.

Tractors by design do not survive being exposed to the elements of weather at all well. Water leaks into engines, transmissions, causes rust in places rust should never be.

He is far out of line on the price. Any tractor setting out for 10 yrs will have problems. There are other BNs around at a better price

Sitting for ten years? If it is stuck, it is worth scrap value. Not stuck? A few dollars more.

For a BN to be worth $2100, it needs to be in very good shape, running good, good tires all around, good paint, no serious problems or deficiencies.

Who knows what restoration 10 years ago meant. He sounds like those guys on American Pickers where they are in a wheelchair and not long for this life and want ridiculous prices for things because they are going to use it some day or it has sentimental value, or they are going to restore it.

That price it for one that runs good has good tires and is driven one the trailer which that one is not. $500 as it sit because you have no idea how good or bad the engine and other parts are and if it has sat that long good chance the engine is locked up from sitting nor maybe even full of water

Pull it out of the weeds on your effort. Assure him you are only interested in it if it is a good runner with nice tires, A BN is a nice basic pull wagons around tractor with no hydraulics and thus limited. Also not rare or really desirable as a collector tractor. The value really can't be more than his price if it was perfect. Jim

I'll tell you how I handle old guys asking 3-4 times actual value and who wont budge on price. I walk away. He will not listen to anything he does not want to hear.

===================

Jim, you never know.....I bought a nice BN up near Fargo about 5 years ago, missing swinging drawbar, excellent rubber, great tin, very good paint job, good motor, and paid $3000. Hauled it home to Wisconsin. I put $100 in it. It was fun to exhibit at shows. I had it 2-3 years, decided to sell it because it rode so rough it hurt my back. A guy from near St. Louis came up to look at it, told him I wanted $3800, he never hesitated and took it home for that price.

But that BN in the weeds? That is really asking for trouble.

My recommendation is to politely thank him for his time but pass. Like everyone else has said, that is WAY out of line for a BN, especially one that has been setting out unused for at least a decade.

99 times out of 100, if he thinks its worth $2100, offering him $500 is akin to insulting his mother. You will be lucky if he doesn't throw you off the property immediately, and if it's a close neighbor, making an enemy out of him is probably not a good idea.

Maybe he just truly doesn't have an idea of what it's worth and is looking to you for a value, but it's rare to have that happen.

The best BN as a tractor to use is worth about half what a comparable C or one third of what a Super C is worth......unless someone might want it because it "is like Grandpa had", etc., etc. or play toy value.
