I have a 1948 M that I have been working on since spring, I rebuilt the carb and getting it back on was not easy, getting the tab in the slot. but it did go without forcing it, Now the engine responds real slow to the throttle. Any ideas on what I should look for? I have a manual, Thanks for any help

My guess is the governor spring. Cheap and easy to replace. They wear out over time especially if it's oem equipment.

The throttle shaft could be binding in the tube going to the carburetor from the governor. Tap the tub up or down to see if that helps. I had that happen to me.

Then I'd recheck the governor too carb connection and you may still have a small piece of something restricting one of the jets. Maybe hit it with some carb cleaner then blow some air through it again... there's better and brighter than me on here hopefully they can offer more

If the governor worked good before you effected the throttle shafts or the carburetor. First lift the top cover on governor that has the vent pipe. Remove the pin in vertical rod. Hold it out of the way and see if shaft to carburetor moves real smooth. If not that's probably the problem. Due to different manifold and gasket variances the forward end of throttle tube should be loose until after the carburetor and rear of throttle tube is mounted. Hole in governor riser is supposed to allow enough movement of forward end. Don't know about now but some aftermarket manifolds would put carb tube and governor housing so far out of line that extra work needed done. Thinner carb mounting gaskets in a lot of kits are thinner than original is another thing that changes line up slightly. That's why you should always readjust the governor linkage whenever disturbed. Should be in your book. Good idea to have the front tube retainer slide back on tube when tightening tube to carburetor. You can then watch to see if tube runs out of clearance in the governor housing tube hole. If not a linkage problem, recheck carburetor rebuilt or adjustments. If kit contained a new discharge nozzle, check that all holes were the same as removed one.
