I'm seeking help in the 'how-to-remove' the shaft from the top of the gearbox in order to replace the gearbox as the top bushings are bad. The manual states to remove the shaft upward from the gearbox I've enclosed photos. Thanks in advance for input.

Never been into one. But from the looks, you probably have to remove the power shaft with the 2 u-joints first. To do that, you may have to slide it farther on to the shaft of the gearbox to get the upper end off.

Remember that all that stuff has to be in time when you put it back together.

How far have you go into it. Have you tried to remove the mounting bolts to remove the whole box. That horizontal bevel gear may stay on the crankshaft and gear box come right off. I had one apart about 50 years ago due to a busted housing but don't remember that far back and I do not have a book on the 46 and the 37-47 are differet.

I counted back a little and it was closer to 55 years I think. Guy, really good person but could just wreck anything, bought baler new in 59 and let it be repossessed in about 61 after he busted the main case. The nut looks just like a regular lock nut or the washer under it has lock tabs on it. Spanner, that sounds like what the Brits always call their wrenches.
