Two MD's with same serial number

There are two MD'S with the same serial number, one in Mo. and one in the Netherlands. Just curious if it's a fraud or typo, or what. Both are 298067 ! Whats your take on it?

One is an 'Americ an' MD.The other is a BMD(british). One is made in Chicago, the other in GreatBrittan. They are two different(but similar)tractors. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! LOL

Except, from the information I'm finding, IH did not make that many BM's and BMD's and the serial numbers were prefixed with a D, B, BF or BFC (and possibly others?) on the British model.

There's very little information online about the BM's serials and production numbers, and virtually nothing about the BMD as far as serials and production numbers. I am only extrapolating from what little I could find on the BM at the tractor wikia so take it with a grain of salt.

From what I can see the BM serials only went up to 10846 and started with 1001, which would imply about 9846 tractors built. If IH used the same serial number series for BMs and BMDs, then the numbers didn't get anywhere near 298067.

If you have pictures of the serial tags on both tractors, the one with the shiny reproduction tag is the counterfeit.

The other possibility is that the 298067 is a part number on the Netherlands tractor. People mistake part numbers for serial numbers all the time.

Typo, mess up at factory or someone put replacement serial number plates on and picked a serial number all ready out there. No other factories built a M or MD like tractor with serial numbers that high. Don't know if you have a picture but that's a late one and should have disc brakes.

Farmall MD's were only ever built at the Farmall Plant in Rock Island, Illinois, 180 miles west of Chicago, right on the bank of the Mississippi River.

Do not be confused by the serial number plate! IH headquarters was in Chicago, tractors built in Milwaukee, Rock Island, and Louisville. Some of the very early tractors were built in Chicago Tractor Works, 10-20, 15-30, etc. And most of IH's crawler tractors built at Melrose Park, illinois plant.
