Farmall f20 behlen road gear installation

Could anyone tell me how the extesion shaft for the top gear of the over drive stay on? When i look it looks like it would spin right off. Thanks

If you are talking about the shaft, that the gear slides on, I believe that it is splined,
and you just drive it on. The cover keeps it from sliding off. I'm pretty sure that you
thread a bolt into the hole, to use as a puller, if you want to remove it.

I did look at it again and it threads on the shaft of the tractor transmission.
My bad I didn't realise there was different ones.

What are you using for an oil seal? Did you have to replace it? I am looking for a PN to crossover to a new seal on mine.

Thanks!

I have not replaced it yet, I haven't installed the overdrive on the tractor yet to see if it leaks or not. I will try to find a number and If I do I will let you know. Thanks

Thanks, I appreciate that!

If it is the original oil seal like the Behlen overdrives in the F-20's I use, it will leak. You may be lucky and it will only slowly drip, but when the engine is running it will sling it on the insides of the frame rails and the bottom of the fuel tank. And eventually the gear oil in the transmission will be low enough that it won't leak out of there when sitting.

Hopefully you have a good one though!

I took the front cover and input yoke from my Behlen OD to a shop in Des Moines that set me up with an SKF 18734. Seems to be leak-free, although I haven't run the tractor enough since the rebuild to get the transmission hot.
