f-20 belly pump installation

I now have an F-20 belly pump and the attaching parts. Does anyone have the installation instructions, or the parts list to show how it all goes together, that is, what parts currently on the front of the transmission have to be replaced? There are a number of shims, also I need to know where those go and what dimension we are trying to reach with them.

Thanks in advance for the help

I am not entirely sure about installing them, but I have removed them before. I assume you know it goes between the clutch housing and transmission, and the transmission's counter shaft is the input power source to the pump. As for the shims, I know that the transmission shaft bearing retainer on the front of the transmission has shims which effect the ring gear and pinon backlash. And there may possibly be some required for the shaft that drives the pump, although I am unsure.

There should be previous topics about the same subject on this forum or on Red Power.

Someone else will chime in with better info!

there is a pre 39 IH group on Facebook with a lot of knowledgeable people and some of the guys have a lot of literature, maybe someone will have a copy of the instructions they would share. You can do some research on Lift-All on the Wisconsin Historical Society in their International Harvester Collection and see what you can find. There is not a lot to that belly pump set up. You won't likely find much in the way of torque or endplay specs as things were done more by feel back then as torque wrenches and dial indicators were not common items. Measure the endplay in your two lower shafts as those are the only two you will be disturbing and write that down and try to keep the endplay the same as it is now when you install the plate and coupler and you should be just fine.

If you haven't found help on this yet email Ken from the link I posted. He has an F20 with a belly pump. I'm sure he would be willing to give you some help or at least send you some photos. Have not met him in person yet but he lives near by me. Seems like one heck of nice guy at least from his videos.

Rob, I found your pictures that you posted from 2012 and they were a big help, they showed which bearing cages went where. I've got the cages and pump mounting plate bolted on now and it looks good, both shafts turned freely but I noticed some 'notching' kind of feel when I would turn the belt pulley by hand, I added two shims to the PTO shaft cage and it lessened it considerably. I cut out the pump flange gasket last night and I think I'm about ready to mount the pump, a friend of mine says I will need to find a helper with a strong back and a weak mind to help!

Thanks all for the responses.
