A-23 roadside mower

Help!!
I have what i believe to be an A-23 roadside mower, made for a 140(That i adapted to my A). Not an A-22 like most people have around here. its been a great mower use it for trimming around the farm. I now have to repair part of the main gear box. Almost no one has heard of this mower. Parts are impossible to find my local dealer doesn't even have a listing for it. does anyone else have one/heard of one/know where to get parts? Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

if this is the mower that i know about, the governments used them extensively. (or at least in tennessee) they are a good machine

Some parts aren't there, makes it a little harder to identify. But it looks to me like the Number 18 highway mower for the International A, not the later Number 23 made for the Super A and later.

I don't have a parts catalog. I could come up with part numbers of some of the bearings. Bearings and seals are probably all standard parts. You are probably out of luck on any other parts unless you find a used donor.

The bearings and seals are simple to get. the issue is a threaded piece that's threaded into the gearbox. I think I can make it on my lathe. I was just hoping somebody could help me properly identify it and possibly track down some literature on it. Thank you for you expertise. Anyway we could definitely identify model with more pictures or casting #s?

It sure looks like a A-18 mower to me too. The 23 had a different way of mounting and a different gear box would be the 2 most obvious differences.

The 2 major pieces of the gear housing are threaded together. replacement of either would be difficult to impossible. Other than that, the only threaded parts I can think of are pipe plugs in at least 3 places. How about a picture of the problem part?

There was an article in the Nov-Dec 2012 Red Power Magazine. The back issue is available.
