I recently acquired a 1955 Cub with 6v electrical. The battery is shot and has no identification.

Does anyone know what size battery this tractor would take, or how to go about determining the size? -- so that I can replace it.

Thanks

You aren't going to find a wide assortment of choices in 6 Volt batteries. I think that only 1 or 2 are still available.

I usually measure the battery box and buy the biggest battery available that will fit in it.

About the only way to know for sure is the take a measuring tape and measure the battery box and then buy the biggest most CCA battery you can find that fit in the box. But those cubs spin over so easy most nay battery that will fit will work. Shoot I have run a friends cub that is converted t o12 volts on a lawn mower battery and it worked just fine

63 bug so does it still have the original 36HP engine in it?? Back when I was in high school I had 2 VW vans and I cannot remember how my bugs but I had at least 5 of them. Sort of wish I still had them and the parts they might be worth a pretty penny now

It has been updated to a whopping 55 HP duel port 1600. It is a Baja Bug with larger tires than stock, so it still pulls like it has 36 HP, fun little car though...Tom

I have a 1955 or 1956 cub (no serial) and it takes a category 1 six volt. Here in central Nebraska they sell them both at TSC and Orscheln Farm and Home store. I do not get more than three years out of them and are trying other places. I got one earlier last week from a local auto store (in was in stock) and before that I got one (more than one six volt tractor) from Car Quest (they had to order it). Good luck
