Hi guys, what are the 706/806 tractor models bringing in row crop gas? Is there much to go wrong with them other than t/a"s?

Can new reproduction clam shell fenders be purchased for these models? I like the looks of the round fenders with side/dash mounted lights over the flat top fenders

Not sure about new clamshell fenders, but there's used one floating around. Big issue people complain about is the shifters. If they haven't been abused and are kept set up properly, they aren't really a problem at all. Lots of guys have switched them out for 56 series shifters with good results.

Well u can definitely get used ones [fenders], not sure what used gas tractors are bringing, there a tad tempermental, they need the right gas, and spark plugs ! The tractor vet, and pete 23 and other, and others are Aces with them.

TA's are like clutch's. Some can wear them out in a hurry and others just seem to make them last. I don't know what a 7 or 8 is worth was not my end of the business. Will tell you, a 706 with the C-291 engine is the one I would want. A 806 gas is pretty much of an orphan around here. Too much tractor for that engine. They even put a tall cast iron valve cover on it to take up the room under the fuel tank that the diesel engine covers. A 806 is taller through the fuel tank and controls area so that gasoline engine looks pretty small sitting in there. It all boils down to the condition of the tractor, engine and power train. Most 706's didn't have enough guts to really tax the power train.

(quoted from post at 20:07:56 06/27/17) Yeah they're shifting linkage and the parking brake

Only when abused. If you think it's a parking BRAKE then its no wonder why you think it is a weak point. It's a park LOCK, not a brake. If you drop it while the tractor is moving, even slightly, it's going to sound like hell and probably break something. If you don't get it fully engaged, it's going to sound like hell and probably break something.

This was designed back when it was assumed people could figure out how, or be trained, to do things properly, and everything didn't have to be "idiot proof."
