Totally restored my dad's Super M-TA and it's beautiful. Dad bought it new before I was born. Currently using nonethanol fuel. Should I be adding lead to the tank? Anybody have any insight on the serial numbers. This is 6 digits with as AS behind it. What does the AS indicate?

The suffix letter "A" indicates it was built as a distillate fuel tractor and if the engine is original to the tractor it should also have the suffix letter "A" following the engine s/n. The suffix letter "S" indicates a TA with provisions for 540 RPM independent PTO. This information is from Guy Fay's IH Tractor Data Book - HTH, Hal.

Save your $$ that lead stuff is snake oil and does not even have any lead in it.

The only thing i recomend you do,,is use a diesel oil like a 10W-30 or a 15-40, or even a IHC Low ASH engine oil, to protect the camshaft and lifters, that's got enough zine[extreme pressure oil] in it, to do the job .
