PTO clutch may be slipping

How big of a job will it be to replace the PTO clutch on an 826 ? Any adjustment other than the linkage? Thanks for any info.

There are three clutches in the TA. A direct clutch in the front of the unit. It is a multi plate hydraulic clutch applied to lock up the TA unit so it rotates at engine speed. The second is a sprag (one way rotation)clutch that prevents the TA unit from turning opposite from engine rotation. When in TA reduction, the sprag clutch holds engine power and allows the TA unit to reduce the engine speed into the trans. The third is the anti-freewheeling clutch Located near the sprag clutch. It is not a prime force device, and is responsible for keeping the tractor from coasting down hill. It is not strong enough to hold engine torque for pulling implements it is not for causing deceleration from high speeds. It is designed to prevent the coasting on engine deceleration (engine braking). The TA linkage is a cable in a housing. adjustment of its travel and limits can be done, but is usually not a slippage issue. Jim

It's not that big of a job to do the PTO , Myself i prefer to drain the rear end and use a Chery Picker to handle it , my back likes this way . IF all your gong to do is freshen up the clutch pac. once you have it out of the tractor and up on the bench four 3/8th bolts and a snap ring and your there . I use the Hd. clutch pac's only . To remove drain the oil from the rear end remove the TOP LINK plate so you can reach in and remove the drive shaft if it wants to come out as they do most times , remove the half inch bolts arpound the unit and look real close for that short one way down on the bottom on the letf . The ones you do not remove are the short ones as you only have one short one . IF you find a short one put it back in , There will be one short on on top just off center and i use it to hook a chain to . Get a piece pipe that will slip over the 540 shaft and use it as a lever to handle it as you must tip the back down as you come out so you do not hit the pick up tube as it can be damaged vary easily . When done you go back in the same way ya come out. Now to set the loc up pressure ya need a TEST fitting and a hyd. pressure gauge that will read 600 PSI and to set pressure you screw the valve stem UP into the square nut that the likage hooks to and the tractor Hyd should be at OPERATING temp. Pressure should read 245 - 250 .

Thanks, vet, for the detailed information. Where is the best place to get the heavy-duty PTO clutch pact ?
