?s about rebuilding my 354 diesel

im getting ready to rebuild the 354 with the bd144 diesel engine.
1.the kit im looking at says it fits both the bd144 and bd154 engine, but i think the bd154 engine is bigger bore so i dont see how the kit would work for either tractor?

2.are these engines wet or dry cylinders? from pics the liner looks like a wet one with only one oring is that correct?

3. should i have the crank ground or buy a new one? new one is $175

Rebuilt my 364 a few years ago and they are wet sleeves. I would have the crank ground as long as it checks out ok otherwise. I think the new pistons and sleeves are all the 154 size.

You cannot use sleeves for a BD154 in a BD144. Sleeves for a B275 or 354 IH tractor are the same and 3 3/8" bore. NOT 3 1/2"
like a BD154 engine used in a B414. I don't know what parts catalog you are looking.

I would not touch the crank unless there is something wrong with it. I have put new pistons, bearings, and sleeves twice in
my BD144 engine in the past 30 years. Never pulled the engine or the crank.

i have talked to a couple of parts places and they all say the kits are the same for both engines, the liners are the same od, the 154 is just thinner wall. my manual backs up the bore being the same for both liners.

just wanted to let everyone know that i got it put back together and 10hrs on engine so far and that i did use the 3 1/2 pistons for the bd154 in my bd144 engine so it can be done.
