So I changed the axle transmission
hydraulic oil in my case ih 4210, put in
hytrans and the wet brake additive, now
the brakes are nice and smooth and
quite. I'm just curious tho because the
old fluid I drained seemed a bit
thicker, more like motor oil or cat
torgaurd or such. Just old or someone
install the wrong fluid last time?

You could send a sample of that old oil to a lab for analysis, and find out for sure.

It is entirely possible that someone put the wrong oil in last time, or at the very least was topping off the oil with gear lube instead of the proper Hytran.

It's already in the drain pail, just was
curious if there was some reason to run
different oil in these. Fresh hytrans
and additive cured my issues tho!

Yup that's my guess too, especially
since the fill is on top of the rear
axle, was a fleet tractor has a side
boom mower so maybe a truck mechanic
made the mistake at one time of topping
it off with gear oil. Brakes sure
chartered but perfect now!
