SuperC starter

I went to a tractor pull 2 weeks ago and the starter gave up the ghost. I got it home and it was in a complete state of death. I took to a repair shop and he said it was junk. $100.00 + to fix. It is hard to see in the picture, but it broke a brush spring. That in turn went around the commuter and totally trashed it. I ordered one from this site and this is what they sent. I was getting ready to paint it and decided it would be a good idea to make sure it will work first. The new one looks a lot beefier which is a good thing as I am running 12 volts. There is a lot of difference in looking at them, so I will see if it fits this weekend.

I don't know what you paid for the "new" one, but much of the stuff sold on the internet is china made junk that doesn't hold up very well. Had that happen on my Super C. I bought a used - original for $100 and put new brushes in it. Still works fine to this day. I had new china make one quit after 6 months. Won't make that mistake again.

I have the old style on all my tractors 6v and they work just fine. But i have serviced them with new brushes, bushings and cleaned the armature that will make a great difference. I have serviced them for customers some were changed to 12v and if they would have refreshed them before 12v wouldnt have been needed. Its seems easy to go to 12v to make them start better when all that was needed would have been to srvice the starter.

If it were only so simple to just service the starter... Good automotive electrical shops are about as tough to find as good radiator shops these days. If you do have a shop in your area chances are all they want to do is sell you the same China parts as you can buy on ebay at a grossly inflated price. They don't want to fix anything.
