H Battery box lid!

To follow up my last post- I have my new box on and cables go to inside....6 volt battery - on the right side is "-" post that goes to starter button(that's fine).... now the "+" post is on left and must have been changed its a regular battery cable that bolts down on the side.(that's fine)...BUT now my battery box lid wont fit! My new battery looks right - part no 1 - group 1 ; battery sit's about 1" below box on inside....the cables slide in perfect and sit on the posts level; but the new lid has 4 rubber bumpers on the bottom of lid and keeps the lid from sitting down on the box....how can something so simple give me so much trouble? I guess the answer is pull off these 4 rubbers so it sits flat?

If you pull off the rubber then the battery could short against the lid if you go over rough ground. If you remove the rubber you need to fasten the battery down in the box.

Is the rubber hitting the top of the battery, the posts, or the cables and preventing it from setting all the way down? How close is the lid from sitting all the way down?

Not all group 1, six volt batteries are created equal, so maybe the battery is too tall? Or maybe the rubber bumpers on the lid are too long?

The battery in my H that is six volts, the cover fits ok with the rubber bumpers. I have one on 12 volt and I just put like a eighth inch thick plastic or wood on top, no bumpers.

I just figured it would fit since it was "new"....that's what I get for figuring! LOL...I took my carpet knife and cut the rubbers to fit ; they were hitting on the battery posts. Battery looks right to me.....cables are right - it will work. Thanks for your help to all.

I was going to suggest trimming the rubber down rather than completely removing it, but wasn't sure how close it was to fitting for you.
