Super A starting

My Dad's Super A always use to start easy until here lately. The only way it will start now is if you have the throttle all the way closed and the choke open at first. You have to crank on it several times then it fire and some more cranking then it will start to run choppy until it warms up.

For years I would open the throttle about 1/3 and not even use the choke (unless it was really cold outside) and it would hit quickly after engaging the starter.

If I try to start it with the throttle open at all it wants to flood and gas will dump out of the carb. I've had the carb off and tried cleaning it twice. I'm thinking it may need a kit or maybe adjusted?

The tractor runs quite well after it finally starts and will restart without hesitation after it is warmed up.

I don't know if this is related or not but it sometimes wants to surge while warming up especially if you try giving it too much gas at once.

(quoted from post at 19:24:13 05/21/17) I would make sure points are clean and gapped right.

Thanks David. I will check that out.

Just curious, why would you expect an issue with the points?
